Birtalife is a planning and estimation layer — it does not replace official government portals such as Ísland.is, Vinnumálastofnun, or Þjóðskrá.

Administrative Guidance & Compliance

Fæðingarorlof (Parental Leave) Framework

We provide planning support based on Act no. 144/2020 on Maternity/Paternity Leave and Parental Leave. While we help you estimate timelines and payments, final eligibility and approval are determined exclusively by Vinnumálastofnun (Directorate of Labour). The monthly payment cap for qualifying 2026 cases is 900,000 ISK.

Mannanafnaskrá (Naming Registry) Usage

Check your preferred names against the current Mannanafnaskrá to better understand potential approval outcomes. Please note that while our tool references official data, all final name approvals are subject to the discretion of the Naming Committee (Mannanafnanefnd).

Municipal Leikskóli (Preschool) Enrollment

Leikskóli placement is governed by individual municipalities. We provide tools to help you manage these applications, but outcomes depend on local capacity, queue status, and specific municipal intake calendars.

Some features of Birtalife require authentication via Rafræn skilríki (electronic ID). This ensures that access to sensitive planning tools is controlled and secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
